Restore workforce and quality funding in 2026-27 budget
California’s more than 1,000 Skilled Nursing Facilities provide 24-hour medical care to nearly 500,000 of the state's most vulnerable patients each year. But California is failing skilled nursing patients and the workforce that cares for them. Extreme budget cuts for caregiver recruitment, training and wages jeopardize the availability of this critical care. Governor Newsom and state lawmakers must protect skilled nursing patients and restore workforce and quality funding in the 2026-27 budget.
Please Restore Workforce and Quality Incentive Program (WQIP) Funding in the 2026-2027 Budget To:
Support Skilled Nursing Patients
Protect Caregiver Jobs
Strengthen Skilled Nursing Workforce Recruitment & Development
Reduce Hospital Overcrowding and ER Wait Times
Medi-Cal Funding Provides Less Than $10 Dollars a Day for Food Costs - the Cost of a Single Fast-Food Meal
State Has Cut Funding for Investments in Workforce Training & Recruitment
State Has Cut Funding for Programs to Improve Quality Care
Challenges Investing in Facilities and Medical Technology
Care for California’s Most Vulnerable Patients
Provide 24-Hour Comprehensive Medical Care
A Lifeline for Families
Reduce Hospital Overcrowding
Chronic underfunding threatens patient services and could force facility closures. Governor Newsom and legislators must prioritize sustainable, fair funding for SNF patients and their caregivers as part of the 2026-2027 state budget and Medi-Cal rate setting process.
I/we support California’s Skilled Nursing Patients and their fight for fair funding and continued access to skilled nursing care. As the state faces an on-going budget deficit, looming federal Medicaid cuts and the negotiation of the new Medi-Cal rate for SNFs, California lawmakers must prioritize fair funding for SNF patients and their caregivers.
